Welcome aboard for Canberra's 'Floriade' and the beautiful gardens of the Southern Highlands. Today we travel through Albury and along the Hume Freeway to Gundagai and the Dog on the
Tuckerbox for our lunch break. See the ruins of the Old Five Mile Pub. Make our
way to our capital, Canberra and visit Cockington Green with its
detailed miniature re-creation of an English rural village. We settle in for the Next Two Nights
at the beautiful Hotel Realm, Canberra.
This morning we visit Parliament House,
before we make our way to Floriade.
Each year Canberra is ablaze with colour, with over a million
flowers planted to bloom on cue, this years display is sure to amaze. Throughout the festival the gardens on the
shores of Lake Burley Griffin overflow with tulips, daffodils, hyacinths
and many other spring time favourites, enjoy our lunch break here at Floriade.
After lunch we enjoy a tour around the Embassies and High Commissions. Then
we travel to Tulip Top Gardens, bursting with blooms and dripping in
blossom. Spread over four hectares, Tulip Top Gardens is family run and home to
1000 blossom trees, half a million bulbs and 100,000 annuals… it’s mind blowing.
An exciting day awaits us as we farewell
Canberra and make our way to the beautiful Southern Highlands. We follow the Federal Highway past Lake St
George then on to Moss Vale, enjoy morning tea at the lovely maintained Leighton
Gardens. Continue on to the lovely Corbett
Gardens. Time to stroll around the
gardens and relax for our lunch break.
This afternoon we tour Bowral, first settled in 1815 by the
explorer John Oxley, see the 19th Century Oval. Then we visit Greenbrier Park one of the beautiful open spring gardens. We enjoy afternoon tea before we make our
way to Historic Berrima, a superbly preserved 1830 town built entirely of local
materials, with time to explore the speciality shops and notable historic buildings. Then we make our way to the beautiful City of Goulburn. We settle in for
our Overnight Stay at the Mercure
Motel Goulburn.
