Spur of Saddleback Mountain to Jervis Bay

DAY 1 – Monday 2nd Sept ’24 GUNDAGAI-MOSS VALE – GERRINGONG (D)

Welcome aboard our exciting Spur of Saddleback Mountain to Jervis Bay tour.  Today we travel through Albury and along the Hume Freeway to Gundagai and the Dog on the Tucker Box for our lunch break.  See the ruins of the Old Five Mile Pub and meet Dad and Dave.  After lunch we continue through the rolling countryside of Yass then we follow the Illawarra Highway through Moss Vale, the scenic Southern Highlands and the lovely Macquarie Pass National Park to Gerringong, where we relax for the next Two Nights at the Park Ridge Retreat Gerringong.   



DAY 2 – Tuesday 3rd DISCOVER KIAMA – ILLAWARRA (BD)

After breakfast we explore Kiama, an Aboriginal word meaning ‘Where the sea makes a noise’, a reference to the famous Blowhole where spectacular plumes of water sprays up to the height of 60m and is floodlit each night.  We visit the Pilots Cottage Museum, which provides information on history relating to shipping, the cedar industry and basalt quarries in the NSW South Coast Region.  Then it’s on the spectacular Cathedral Rocks with it’s distinctive rock formations, just one of Kiama’s many geological delights. Years of erosion have shaped these volcanic rocks into stunning sculptural forms which can be viewed from a range of vantage points. We then journey on to the Illawarra Light Railway Museum showcasing local historical railway buildings including the 1915 signal box from Otford (north of Wollongong), the 1890 Yallah Railway Station building along with the Ken McCarthy Museum building. After lunch we visit the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk which takes you on a walk through beautiful warm temperature rainforest with 500 metres of steel walkway nestled in the treetop canopy some 20-30 metres from the rainforest canopy to the Royal National Park out over Lake Illawarra and out to the South Pacific Ocean. We enjoy a delightful afternoon tea here before heading back to our accommodation.



DAY 3 – Wednesday 4th JERVIS BAY – HUSKISSON (BD)

After breakfast head to a Pottery Studio to get a little hands-on pottery experience. This class will allow you to embrace your creativity and have a dabble at pottery. We then head to Paper Bark Camp for Lunch. With delicious food served amongst the treetops… there's no doubt that dining in the Gunyah is a highlight, taking the concept of bush tucker to another level. Much consideration is given to sourcing local and regional produce and only the freshest ingredients used, so menus change regularly depending on what is in season. A relaxed approach to cooking, flavours and techniques that reflect our multicultural heritage and a clever use of indigenous ingredients combine to create a wonderful bush dining experience that celebrates  the incredible diversity of contemporary Australian cuisine. This afternoon we take a cultural tour in Boderee National Park whilst enjoying a cuppa. Then it’s time to head to our accommodation for the next two nights Huskisson Bayside Resort. 



DAY 4 – Thursday 5th JERVIS BAY DOLPHIN CRUISE – MARITIME MUSEUM (BD)

This morning, after breakfast, we delight in a Jervis Bay Dolphin Cruise. Jervis Bay is home to the beautiful Bottlenose Dolphin species. There are over 100 resident dolphins who call the marine park their home. The Dolphin Cruise, called the "Dolphin Tour”, provides you with the perfect opportunity to marvel at these gorgeous creatures. We often find pods of Dolphins on our cruises.  Occasionally they swim along with our vessel & play on our bow! Then it’s lunch at the Flamin Galah Brewery Co. Admire the pink concrete and incredibly beautiful brewery built by the owners. We enjoy lunch, and a look around, before continuing on to the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum. The Jervis Bay Maritime features a world renowned collection of maritime artefacts and navigational and surveying instruments.  The Museum exhibits a range of nautical equipment, models, photographs, paintings, drawings and objects relating to the history and heritage of the Jervis Bay area. The Museum is also home to the historic c1911 Lady Denman Ferry, the only surviving wooden Sydney Harbour Ferry as well as other historic vessels. The Museum enjoys a waterfront location on Currambene Creek. Positioned in a beautiful bush setting in Jervis Bay, the complex includes a large recreation area with native gardens, a mangrove boardwalk, fish feeding pond, boathouse and historic buildings. We return to our accommodation to enjoy dinner and restful sleep.



DAY 5 – Friday 6th HOME (B,L)

This morning we farewell our hosts and depart Gerringong for our journey home through Macquarie Pass and the scenic southern highlands to Moss Vale and Goulburn stopping enroute for morning tea. We enjoy lunch in Gundagai before making our way home through Albury after a relaxing and scenic tour.
